School's Out
So I have a little bit of time and figured I'd update my blog. June 7 was the last day of school for my county. This year was extremely successful. I can now say that I am a senior after being a 9th grader for 3 years of my high school career.
Last year I was taken to court by the school for missing ~80 days of school and being under the age of 16. I was the first case in Dorchester County; however it was not because others had not done the same thing, but the truancy extension of the court did not exist. Instead of rolling over dead and going back to school, I argued regarding testing out of classes and was able to get a contract between the school and myself. Simply, the contract gave me the option to test out of every class that I had failed if I missed less than 5 unexcused days of school is semester 1.
When second semester came around, I had not exceeded 5 unexcused absences and the test out option came into play. I began testing out and failed one exam out of 9; world history. I wasn't surprised that I failed this considering I missed first period last year nearly every day and that was the time when I took world history. I'm not overly confident, so I was surprised that I did not fail more than one exam.
I'm quite ecstatic to be a senior and while I'm not proud of the actions of my previous two years in high school, I'm proud that I'm now on course for graduation. The scary thing is I'll be 18 in no time. Junior year went by very quickly. Senior year will be here and gone in no time, it's like that for everyone. So I've got one year to make all my decisions regarding college. One thing I have decided is that I will go into law. I received a compliment from the quad-county truancy court coordinator, the master of the court, and met with the judge upon discharge from truancy court and was complimented regarding my negotiation with the school. I am apt to debates and with discipline, I believe I could use my debating abilities within court to become successful.
